In a significant development for India’s maritime sector, the new office building of the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) in Visakhapatnam is set to be inaugurated on 14th July 2025. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, as the Chief Guest.
Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will attend the event as the Guest of Honor. M. Sribharat, Member of Parliament from Visakhapatnam, will also be present on the occasion.
The event will be presided over by Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping. Also in attendance will be T. K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary (MoPSW), and Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, Special Secretary (MoPSW).
The new office building is located near R.K. Mission, Harbour Park Down area in Visakhapatnam. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
