Grand Celebration of International Yoga Day at Gateway of India; Seafarers Perform Yoga Onboard Ships; Launch of “Yoga at Sea” Wellness Modules

On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2025, a grand event was successfully organized at the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai. The event was a collaborative effort between the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and Patanjali Yogpeeth, with active participation from the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping).

This year’s Yoga Day theme — “One Earth, One Health” — emphasized global health and harmony. The event was graced by the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal as the chief guest. Renowned actor Mukesh Khanna and DG Shipping Shyam Jagannathan (IAS) were also prominently present.

The program commenced at 6:20 AM with a live broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, followed by a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session conducted by trained yoga instructors, with hundreds of participants taking part.

Launch of “Yoga at Sea” Wellness Modules

On this special occasion, DG Shipping launched 10 dedicated “Yoga at Sea” wellness modules, designed specifically for the physical and mental well-being of maritime professionals (seafarers). The initiative was developed under the leadership of DG Shipping Shyam Jagannathan.

Yoga Celebrated Onboard Ships Across the Seas

Taking the message of yoga beyond land, seafarers across the oceans participated by practicing yoga onboard their ships. Captain Rajesh Singh, currently on an ocean passage aboard the chemical tanker “M.T SAKURA SHUCHI”, performed yoga early in the morning amidst the clean, fresh air of the sea

“Doing yoga in the pure and fresh ocean air fills the body with freshness and energy. The quality of air we get at sea is unmatched compared to that on land. We seafarers are fortunate to experience this clean environment while sailing, and yoga in such an atmosphere is highly effective.”
Captain Rajesh Singh

This celebration not only reflects the global acceptance of yoga, but also demonstrates how health and balance can be achieved even amidst the waves of the ocean.
